Backgrounds using distress reinkers and acrylic

I've been playing with acrylic paint and distress reinkers.  For the first two tags I put acrylic paint blobs onto my craft sheet and added a few of drops of colour to the paint and then spritzed with water before swiping in the tags.  The three colours used were from the 2012 summer distress set.

I then spread a layer of white acrylic onto my sheet and spritzed reinker that had been diluted with water onto the paint. The first impression was quite thick so I pressed it onto a second piece of watercolour card.

Then I spritzed some more ink onto the sheet and id another impression onto watercolour card

and finally added more ink but also spritzed the paint with water, the colours blended a lot more.

I will now attempt to make some cards with these backgrounds.  The first two done on watercolour aren't completely flat as more of the paint came through so they should make interesting stamping backgrounds.

Oh Baby

The 20th January has been a sad day for me since my father passed away 13 years ago so it was fabulous to hear of a new baby born in the family.  My niece had a little girl named Matilda.

I wanted to make a welcome card for her but decided to try and make it unconventional.

A bit of art journalling

Oh Oh 7

I've only recently begun to explore the world of art journalling.  I think my term at college last year encouraged me to explore without quite as much fear.  On one of my journeys in to college I picked up one of the freebie magazines at the underground station to discover they have some great images perfect for transferring using gesso.  Its a bit scary because you have to paint the right side of the image quite thickly with the paint before applying it to the page face down.  Only the next day when all is dry can you do the reveal by wetting and rubbing off the backing paper and hopefully discovering that treasured picture is embedded into the page.

I decorated my page before adding the cut out image with Ranger color wash sprays through a stencil (this stencil was actually a piece of chipboard left over after some die cut coins for a game had been removed) and splatters of acrylic paint.  The facing page is the inky stencil pressed down on the page and this seems to work better than with a plastic stencil as it absorbs a bit more ink.   I specifically chose colorwash sprays this time because I knew a) I would be adding white over the top and from experience distress and dylusions both bleed into anything that goes on top, b) I was going to be wetting my cut out image and again didn't want the colours to move.  I'd like to enter this into the Simon Says Totally mad no rules tea party
